The storytelling is a slow burn

When I sat down to watch director Justin Denton’s 2024 film Curse of the Sin Eater, I had actually never heard of it. But the cover art for the film turned out to be quite interesting, and the fact that it was a horror film I had never seen before, and of course, given my fascination with the horror genre, I didn’t need any persuasion to sit down and watch the movie. I literally had no idea what to expect here, so writers Adam Davis and Will Corona Pilgrim basically had every opportunity to impress and entertain me. You have to venture well beyond the halfway point of the film before things start to happen. And to be honest, I have to admit that my interest in the story was waning at this point.

Visually, don’t expect a great horror movie experience

So writers Adam Davis and Will Corona Pilgrim kind of dropped the ball and never got it back on track. The film’s cast was made up of actors and actresses I had never met before. And that works in the film’s favor, as I love seeing unknown talent on screen. And I have to say that the acting in Curse of the Sin Eater was passable, despite the subpar script and storyline. There were some simple special effects throughout the film, but they were hardly enough to lift the film out of mediocrity.

But the cover art for the film turned out to be quite interesting, and given that it was a horror film that I had never seen before, and given my fascination with the horror genre, I naturally needed no persuasion to sit down and watch the film. I literally had no idea what to expect here, so writers Adam Davis and Will Corona Pilgrim basically had every opportunity to impress and entertain me. You have to be halfway through the movie before things start happening.

And I have to say that despite the subpar script and plot, the acting in Curse of the Sin Eater was mediocre.
