The film’s subtitle “Folie a Deux” means “The Madness of Two” in French. Initially, this led to speculation about Harley Quinn appearing in the film, which was soon confirmed. The name Folie a Deux comes from 19th-century French psychiatrists Charles Lasègue and Jules Falret. The term was coined to describe two or more people who share the same madness or delusion. It is also known as Lasègue-Falret syndrome. Rating is 6/10Seen in 2024 September 30 First Fan Release (First Look) Format: (Digital) IMAX Todd Phillips does exactly what he did in The Hangover Trilogy with Joker 2. The director goes on to create a sequel that is sadly empty and lacks character development. Phillips has outdone himself by directing a film whose cinematography and/or visual imagery depicts all the feelings and emotions that need to be said and expressed. BUT, he failed to create a compelling story. From the first part to the second the characters in the movie usually change. Their arc slows down or tilts. Their personalities change. Along the way events/obstacles are presented that will change their lives. Or a new character enters their lives which opens the door for more interesting events in their path, leading them to Folie à Deux. Joker/Arthur Fleck’s life doesn’t seem to change much in this movie with the addition of Gaga’s character Lee. Instead the movie constantly rehashes its events, flashing back to the past (the first Joker movie) or reacting to some of its scenes. Also in this movie it keeps returning to the same places and events. A completely boring movie that is ONLY entertaining visually. This movie introduces two of the main characters in the world of Gotham, Harvey Dent, played horribly by Harry Lawtey and written even worse. By the end of the movie I felt like he was useless and being taken advantage of because of his « name » amongst comic book fans. Same goes for Lady Gaga’s Lee, who felt like she wasn’t even in this movie. I loved how this movie uses music/songs to show that this is our inner escape. However, the choice of songs was inappropriate. On the other hand, her performance was well done by Gaga or the filmmaking skills of Joaquin Phoenix and Lawrence Sher.
